Many Reasons

Lesson 14

There are always multiple reasons for choosing daily to recover from sex addiction. Noticing who we hurt, feeling the guilt of what we have done and then owning being part of the solution is the path forward. We stay stuck in Shame when stay stuck in seeing or not seeing out part in the problems and especially not owning being in the solution.

Music artists often capture the essence of the broken human condition. Read through these song lyrics.

I'm not a perfect person
There's many things I wish I didn't do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so, I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
And the reason is you
I'm sorry that I hurt you
It's something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
That's why I need you to hear

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
And the reason is you
And the reason is you
And the reason is you
And the reason is you

I'm not a perfect person
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
And the reason is you
I've found a reason to show
A side of me you didn't know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you

The Reason Song - Hoobastank - (Source Google & Musixmatch)

Remember from the section who are you doing this for, I said "What matters is doing it for yourself and doing your best."

We must own and learn from failures.

We must remember our why of recover always

We must measure success as progress (the then vs now and not the ideal or perfection comparison).

Remember You are your toughest opponent. You must only compare yourself with yourself and move forward.

Only in seeing the progress and keeping the perspective as well as doing this for you and not just others will you find peace in the struggle, make meaning out of pain, and learn to live with a new perspective.

Action Item

  • List out the other reasons for your recovery besides yourself.
  • Review your why of recovery, refine it if you have already written it out.
